Retinal Detachment Surgery

Retinal detachment represents an emergency in which a thin layer of tissue behind the eye separates from its normal position. Retinal detachment separates retinal cells from the lining of blood vessels and provides oxygen and nutrients. The longer the retinal detachment, the longer the risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye.
There are several types of surgery to fix a retinal detachment. Simple tears in the retina can be treated with cryotherapy or cryotherapy called laser surgery. Different types of retinal detachment require different types of surgery and different levels of anesthesia.
