Macular Hole Surgery

A macular hole is a condition in which a very small hole is formed in the central part of the retina that causes the clearest vision. The affected area of ​​the eye is called the macula. The macula is made up of special nerve cells that allow you to see details with a sharp central vision. Macular holes can cause symptoms such as dark areas in the center of vision, deformities, or overall blurred vision.

Macular hole surgery includes vitrectomy and desquamation. We use the latest surgical techniques available for macular hole surgery. The surgery uses a device that makes three holes in the eye and removes a jelly-like substance called vitrectomy that fills the center of the eye (vitrectomy). The thin membrane on the surface of the retina that surrounds the macular cavity is physically removed from the retina using good forceps (membrane detachment). The eyes are filled with inert gas and slowly diffuse from the eyes over 4-6 weeks.
